Prealgebra

Description

This class will cover the essential topics students encounter during their years in middle school before starting Algebra 1! We will cover topics such as proportions, expressions with variables, order of operations, and ending it off with an introduction to Algebra 1 with linear equations.

Algebra 1
Instructors: Alina Shi & Elissa Tian

DESCRIPTION

​This course will last 7 weeks and will cover the big topics of Algebra 1. Most of the content follows the school syllabus and covers basics from linear equations to more complex topics like exponents and radicals. The class is recommended for middle school students, but is welcome to students of any grade.

Algebra 2

DESCRIption

This class is intended for students with a background in Algebra 1 and Geometry, and will give students an overview of the Belmont High School Algebra 2 Honors course. It will provide an introduction to: Polynomials, Radicals and Imaginary Numbers, Rational Functions, Exponentials, and Trigonometry. ​

Geometry
Instructors: Jaden Yan & William Sun

DESCRIPTION

Taught by William Sun and Jaden Yan. This class will serve as an introduction to the fundamental concepts of geometry. The class will explore topics like triangles and circles, and end with a class on trigonometry. The class is open to all ages but most suited for 7th and 8th graders.

Competition Math
Instructors: Steven Shi & Ethan Gong

Description

​This class will focus on building a solid understanding and problem workmanship shown in middle school competition math/early high school competitions. This class will start with some basic fundamental musts, but it will progressively get more challenging as the course continues. Spanning from algebra to probability and statistics, this course will help you prepare for middle school competitions such as IMLEM, Mathcounts, and AMC8/early 10.

Physics
Instructors: Elena To & Austin Liu

This class will serve as an introduction to the physics curriculum that students will encounter in their freshman year of high school at Belmont. It will also explain the concepts found in AP Physics 1 such as momentum, energy, and rotation. No prior experience with physics is needed but comfortability with basic algebraic concepts is assumed.

Chemistry
Instructors: Nilay Narayan & Kian Keyhan

Description

This class is an introduction to the concepts taught in a high school Honors chemistry class. It will cover a range of topics at a manageable pace. The class is targeted towards students entering grades 7-10, but anyone is welcome to join. While no prerequisite knowledge is needed, an understanding of basic algebra is recommended. If time permits, we will also cover a few topics on the AP Chemistry curriculum.

Biology

Description

This class provides an introduction to the biology curriculum that students will cover in their junior year of high school. The class is based off of the AP Biology course outline and aims to give students an overview of the concepts, such as cell organelles, cellular energetics, heredity, and gene expression, that they will encounter in any level course. The class’ curriculum and pace is targeted towards grades 7-10, but all are welcome, and no prerequisite knowledge is required.

Robotics

Description

This class will serve as an introduction to the concepts of robotics, and an introductory project to grasp the basics of making a robot. Civics

This civics course will inform you of what it means to be a good citizen, and how our government works. We will discuss how the federal government and local governments are set up, their interactions between each other, and recent events that demonstrate these interactions. By the end of this course, students will be able to appreciate the importance of their role, and the role of the different parts of government.

Chess
Instructor: Ben Palmer

Description

​This class should be perfect for people with some experience playing chess, though you should be able to catch on quickly even if you have never played the game before. We will explore opening principles, essential middlegame ideas, and various endgame patterns. At the end of class, students will be able to participate in a tournament to practice their skills.
